Light pollution doesn’t exist out in the
Clarkton backwoods, for there aren’t any cities for a hundred miles in
any direction. Out there, a new moon makes the stars so visible,
you can imagine yourself as an astronaut in space. At least this
is what little Georgie Parker does on these ideal nights. The
back porch as his spaceship, he sails through the universe searching
for a new home. And rightfully so, for Clarkton is no place for
an imaginative young boy. No, Clarkton is no place for anyone
with dreams.
Hovering above reality with the passion of a saint,
Georgie dreams his ever-expanding dreams. In these moments, his
mind is so wet with clarity that his ideas manifest themselves as true
visions. Rotating galaxies come to life before his eyes.
Dead planets flourish with life once again. Star systems of
limitless proportion beckon for his witness.
Georgie has no restrictions in space. Georgie
is god of all that he may touch. But his stature is stripped away when
his mother calls out his bedtime. It is at this point that the
dead-ends of a dead town envelope his thoughts. It is now that little
Georgie will slip into sleep and become god again until the sun steals
his throne.
